The latest tune from MacGregor Burns puts a combination of longing and romantic idealism at the forefront of warm, drifting indie rock. “She Never Took a Chance On Me” is lyrically straightforward and vulnerable in a way that instantly feels like Burns is in conversation with a friend. That pairs well with the track’s instantly catchy refrain and warm acoustic guitar. While much of the melody sways with a breezy sort of ease, the punch of the percussion and big strums of guitar in the pre-chorus provide the perfect textural balance and momentum push for the song as a whole. Production and backing vocals from Luke Temple give this tune an extra bit of glow and vibrance that make it the kind of song you come back to.
MacGregor Burns is set to release a new full length album this fall. In the meantime, check out more from him here.
