Tune: Purr – “Take You Back”

September 10, 2019

An old Swell Tone favorite has become a new Swell Tone favorite on Purr‘s “Take You Back.” Since the release of 2014’s “Hold the Line” and “Secrets,” we’ve been huge fans of Jack + Eliza who have now reimagined their sunny pop as Purr. The duo of childhood friends from New York create patient pop with effortless charm and limitless potential. At the center of their music, there is a steadfast core of conscientious songwriting that works to enhance every part of their minimalistic style.

And now, they are back and more polished than ever as Purr. While the pair have released a few prior tracks under the moniker and have already been playing live, “Take You Back” feels like an apropos re-launch back to the golden heights of indie pop. As fluidly as ever, their voices intertwine in unison and tethered harmony overtop a lush and set of instrumentation that tonally references the richness of the 60’s and 70’s. There is a soft bit of call and response throughout the entire song between the instrumentation and the floating vocals that creates a unique and welcoming sort of playfulness. Holding true to the pair’s signature songwriting, “Take You Back” is confident and assertive in an expanded landscape of sound painted with bold brushstrokes.

Having just signed to ANTI- Records, we’re sure there is much more brilliance to come from Purr. In the meantime, listen to more Purr here.
