The newest single from Rowena Wise is the kind of song that feels just right. On “Nobody’s Saviour,” the Australian artist formerly known as Ro has come back to the musical fold once again with a rebrand in name but the same heartfelt songwriting that we have loved from her in the past. Her vocals come to life with a captivating emotional urgency amidst a careful, driving beat and warm-toned guitar. The track’s chorus blooms with perfectly cathartic repetition and has the same rewarding impact on each iteration through the song’s progression. Lyrically, “Nobody’s Saviour” is a great precautionary warning to not let go of your own identity in trying to love or help someone else. Wise says of the song:
“I think love can make you stand too close to the painting to see it for what it is.” “I’ve learnt the hard way that you can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved, and you can’t love someone else if you don’t love yourself.”
It is the track’s patient build combined with the soft power in the vocal delivery that brings a timeless magic. “Nobody’s Saviour” is out now on Beloved Recordings and Dalliance Recordings. Listen to more from Rowena Wise here.
