Will there ever be a Rosie Tucker song that we don’t love? The honest answer is no. Earlier this year, we had the chance to see a few Rosie Tucker live performances. They were everything we’d hoped for and included more humor than we could have ever known was coming. While it was enthralling to see all of the tracks on their latest album, Never Not Never Not Never Not, and some old ones live, we were completely enamored by a track we now know to be “Ambrosia” performed on stage. Named for arguably the most blasé of all the salads, there’s nothing apathetic about this song. A sonic treat produced by Wolfy with as many unexpected ingredients and textures as the sweet, fruity concoction it was named for, “Ambrosia” draws strength from its quietest moments and ignites those gentle sparks of emotion with a mountainous vocal riff. Longing is captured in its purest form in the tune’s finely detailed lyrics and the constant push and pull of momentum in the tune’s structure. But, it is Tucker’s voice that dips, dives, and rises with confidences to pull the melody through the tensest moments.

Much like its creator, “Ambrosia” is a treasure. It’s the kind of song that just feels right, relentlessly tugging and yanking at every heartstring. Have a taste of the lyrics below and catch Rosie Tucker on one of their many national tour dates in the coming weeks by grabbing a ticket here!

Chewing on my fat lip, contemplate the cool whip
Cover dish and chill for a while
You got money stress so I pick up the check
I check my balance as I lean to one side

And I am older every second
Than I’ve ever been
Right now & now & now
I want you more with every second
Than I ever did
Right now & now & now

Ambrosia, dish of the gods gets
Covered in cool whip, shoved
To the back of the fridge
Black tank top, middle of autumn
Nothing is different
Just cause you wish that it is

Ducking out a cool rain, listening to Coltrane
I grew up the place where she died
Payin my respects while awaiting your texts
I think I love you in all possible lives

But the end is closer every second
Than it’s ever been
Right now & now & now
I want you more with every second
Than I ever did
Right now & now & now

Ambrosia’s turning me honest
Sweet as they come but
I’m not the one that they miss
A vision covered in cool whip
Nothin is simple just cause you wish that it is
