Helenor sets guilt on a low simmer on his latest single, “Bad2.” On the second single from his upcoming debut LP Something Twice, David DiAngelis (aka Helenor) really captures the duality of an externally bright and internally dark moment. The song’s shuffling beat lays the perfect runway for the cascading melody, poignant lyrics, and the post-choral synths that almost ring like electronic church bells. Careful dissonance between the harmonized warmth of the chorus repeitions and the whirring synth lines further cements the track’s effortless ability to deliver complexities on a golden platter. It is lines like the second verse dropping in with “it’s the perfect day to spiral down the drain” that give “Bad2” a particularly existential charm. DiAngelis says of the tune:
“This is a soundtrack for pretending you have the ability to be present. Bad2 is a ball and a chain and a weighted walk through a vitamin D soaked summer day.”
