The new video and single from Henry Chadwick are nestled comfortably between a dream and a nightmare.
“Awake” is a guitar-driven moment of coming to terms with being alive, awake, and doing ok. Chadwick delivers the mantra-like refrain in his warm, yearning voice amongst a wall of shifting guitars and harmonized back vocals. There’s a beautiful call and response feeling between all parts of the song that serves to reinforce its message by pairing small light textures with the heavy low end of the song. The tune represents struggle in a confident tug-of-war of ever-gliding sounds.
Confidently sporting over-sized sunglasses and colorful visors, Chadwick pops up in an a mysterious assortment of locations in the smoke-filled clip by Justin Kohlberg. As the frames overlap and fade amongst each other, a controlled bit of madness echoing the slight disorientation of the song unfolds colorfully and with just right amount of uncertainty.
