It’s always a great day for a little more Oddnesse. We’ve had an ongoing love of Oddnesse since 2016’s incredible “Somewhere Somehow.” Songwriter/producer Rebeca Arango and songwriter/producer Grey Goon combine together as Oddnesse to mold synth, longing, and donuts into a sparkling anthem on their latest single, “Donut Shop.” Its barrage of hazy guitars entangling the forlorn melody project the song’s yearning plea for differentiation into a stratosphere of reverberation. Subtle harmonies, a persistent drum beat, and the rise of each phrase all seek to pull the protagonist from her cyclical thoughts to the end of the line at the donut shop. A bright tune for a better tomorrow, “Donut Shop” ends in a perfectly minimalistic echo of the strength of the chorus alone in three-part harmony. This track will certainly be pulling us into the hazy Portland autumn.
