Good musicians are also great music recommenders, especially when it comes to their equally talented friends. Our pals Side Saddle posted this cozy pair of songs from their friend(s) called Gabriella this morning and they have been on repeat ever since.. Though it’s technically her solo project, Gabriella Chavez worked closely, as usual, with Charlie Sztyk on this release. Patiently wading through the disillusionment of early adulthood and abrupt realities of cancer in distorted harmony, the pair bring a warmth to the dark subject matters simmering below the surface of their passionate folk. Quiet intention fills each softly plucked guitar riff and surfy guitar lick guiding the way for their yearning voices.
“Weak Too” pushes forward with strength that resonates from its swelling guitar chords and big chorus while “Weak One” focuses on a gentler progression that relies on poignant lyrics and minimalism. Both tracks are defined by a kind of full-hearted beauty that comes from a genuine place and leaves a lingering desire for more. And – it was all made yesterday. Dig into the two Gabriella tracks below.
(Sztyk also makes some beautiful indie folk of his own which you can find here.)
