Perfecting a certain delicate sludge, London four-piece PROM is back with a new single. “Celebrate,” the second track of two off their debut 7″, is a ballad that slides along a trudging bassline and wailing guitar melodies. The heaviness of its instrumentation is countered by front-woman Angela Won-Yin Mak’s haunting vocals that float effortlessly above the aggression of their sonic backdrop. I’m not always drawn towards industrial music but the palpability of the bluesy surf guitars and airy female vocals really give this band a welcoming charm.
