Natalie McCool makes pop as smooth as her name might suggest. London and Liverpool-based McCool has been impressing critics and audiences alike with her artful, simplistic pop for the past few years. But, the unassuming air of her latest single, “Pins,” is what really caught my attention. Crafted to gently dig in it’s claws into your musical memory, the song using a careful arrangement of electric guitars and pinging percussion to surround the passionate whispers of McCool. As the tune progresses, the understated ferocity of the biting lyrics slowly comes to the forefront, highlighted by a delicate break into muffled version of the melody. “Pins” serves as the promising start to McCool’s new EP due out later this year.
