Like a letter from an old friend, “Scootin’ Boogie” radiates a familiarity, warmth, and comfort that have come to know and certainly love from JW Francis. What we have always appreciated about JW is that he is so great at taking the audience along for the ride. This time, its a bit more literal. In a video he made himself, he captures the open road/skies, shows in unexpected places, roadside attractions, cameos from loved ones, and other mischief on a drive along Route 66. It’s paced perfectly to match the absurdities of an American road trip with the easy going jangle of the tune.
Musically, “Scootin’ Boogie” is cathartic in a particularly JW Francis kind of way. It kicks off with the syncopated punch of a building rhythm section. The bright guitars and synth flutters chug along in compliment to the cyclical melody. It begins to churn in such a seamless and easy flow that feels like the unfound treasure the lyrics are seeking.
JW Francis’ new album, Route 66, releases on November 11th: The 100 year anniversary of the famous highway. Listen to more from more music in the meantime here. He also makes some of the most creative and fun merchandise for each album which you can check out here.
