We have a crush on Babaganoüj and they’ve got a crush on you. The four piece has been parading their gleeful pop around Brisbane venues and festivals for a few years but really hit their stride on their latest single “Can’t Stop.” Oozing with the dreamy simplicity of young love, the candy-coated pop number hammers infatuation out ingripping guitar lines and sweet repetition of that refrain sung gently in unison.
Splicing together closeups of the band in bright colors and geometric shapes, the video, filmed by our pal Vincent Chen, wonderfully captures the lighthearted feel and the undeniable spirit of the 90’s embodied in the song. In fact, it looks like it could be the perfect opening theme for a 90’s teen TV show. Does that make Pete the actor who got his own successful TV series a few episodes in and only returns for a cameo in the series finale? I’m not sure if Australia ever had Clarissa Explains It All, but I think this clip and song combination fills every void left by missing out on the early part of Melissa Joan Hart’s acting career.
