Drift in color through Robert Kretzschmar’s latest single, “Let It Be.” If you came in search of a Beatles cover, you won’t find it here. What you will find it a swirling, dream of playful textures and vocals that shuffle sprightly along the song’s rhythmic core. Kretzschmar, a Berlin drummer for lots of European artists we love, has released the tune as part of his debut solo album, Homecoming. The track has an unexpected kind of charm that draws from the warmth of Kretzschmar’s voice and its pairing with the backing vocals of Anna Erhard. While those voices are the song’s main character, the softness of the piano and the interwoven plucks, strums, and taps bring the song to life. In a fluid dance around the peaceful melody, this kaleidoscope sound comes together with just the right amount of patience. The lyrical tension of a gripping attraction unwinds with each repetition of these riffs.
Directed by Kretzschmar, the song’s video clip brings the same freedom of movement as the song. Two skaters weave around large pink balloons and each other as the track unfolds.
