Pet Owner‘s newest track is a curious slice of sputtering and modern enchantment. A softer companion to her previously released debut single, “Helping Hand” is thickly-layered questioning with fuzzy edges. Pulling elements from both folk and pop music, Swiss artist Lea Mathis (aka Pet Owner) creates a world of sound that is full of color and unexpected textures. The lyrics dig into the details of the circuitous and sometimes nagging thoughts occur as one navigates the little pieces of a relationship. Persistent strums of an acoustic guitar and a minimal drum beat keep the song moving forward while Mathis’ tender vocals to stay in focus as they glide through the intermittent bits of manipulated sounds poking through. The dissonance between the strain in song’s lyrics and the brightness of the instrumentation makes the song really come to life.
