Maja Lena takes a winding and colorful journey through the last remnants of a close friendship on her latest single, “No More Flowers.” In a synth-laden, textural wander, she weaves lyrical metaphors depicting the often confusing and certainly complex emotions that come at the close of a once dear friendship. Despite the heaviness of the message, the main refrain soars and the arrangement is filled with a brightness that guides the listener toward the hope of future reconciliation. As much a musical adventure as it is a song, there’s a charming purity in the way all of the layers sway into one another with grace.
Directed by Martha Webb, the song’s clip is just as immersive as the world of sound. Maja Lena dances amongst the warm and natural tones of trees, flowers, rocks, and bright sunshine in contrasting dresses as the clip unfolds. The intentional peculiarity of the shots and the careful way they are pieced together gives this visual the same free-flowing sense of wonder as the song.
“No More Flowers” is the first track off of her second solo album, Pluto, which is set to be released November 18th on Chiverin Records. Listen to more from Maja Lena here and the song below.
