The latest track from Mothé is both heartbreaking and anthemic. Hovering somewhere between indie pop and indie rock, “Dancing On An Empty Floor” is the perfect example of the way Spencer Fort (aka Mothé) is able to paint tender emotions with big, bold strokes in their songwriting. These soaring choruses are instantly addictive, especially when released into the sparkling swirl of instrumentation in the bridge.
There’s a satisfying patience in the way this away this arrangement builds and contracts that leaves just the right amount of tension in these verses. The frankness of the lyrics makes the isolation of the lyrical refrain feel all the more real. “Dancing On An Empty Floor” is the kind of vibrant tune that feels familiar on first listen and digs in deeper with every listen.
