Tune: Lady Legs – “Learning from Myself”

September 8, 2020

Lady Legs‘ “Learning from Myself” is an instantly charming bit of indie rock that resonates in waves. A standout track from the Alabama quartet’s most recent album, Off Days, the song oozes warmth even as its arrangement spirals outward in pulses of controlled frenzy. Contemplative lyrics in comforting repetition provide a steady thread through the track as the instrumentation blossoms around them.

Built upon the movement of the track’s journeying bassline, the guitars, saxophone, and piano are all have their own voice but shine most brightly when they all come together in fervent pushes forward as the song progresses. There’s a sense of confining worry that builds in the lyrics and then releases into the satisfying glow of the song’s instrumental landscape. A sonic metaphor for its lyrics filled with flutters, soft but undeniably catchy riffs, and a continual radiance, “Learning from Myself” never stops reaching for higher ground.

Off Days is out now on Communicating Vessels. Listen to the album and more from Lady Legs here.
