It’s not often we find a track we’d happily live inside. But, the latest track from Oslo’s Benedikt is something special. The many-membered outfit created a symphony of effervescence on “Old Friends.” Bright and hopeful in tone, the song perseveres through some painful lyrics that paint an intimate portrait of the loss of a loved one. The song becomes the vehicle for the release of burden and emotional weight that the sink so heavily in the words of the melody. Every pluck and swell of string reaches skyward as the melody gently soars, bringing this already ethereal tune to a utopian emotional plane of sunny radiance. As mantra-like refrain and post-chorus begin their free fall, the listener’s mind is tugged away from the isolationism of the lyrics.
“Old Friends” is one of many releases we’ve enjoyed from Norwegian label and book publisher Koke Plate. You can listen to more Benedikt here.
