This new Besphrenz track is the perfect combination of sexy and cute. While that line was directly stolen from Steve Carell’s character in the 2011 cinema classic “Crazy Stupid Love,” it quite accurately describes “dreamgurl.” Besphrenz are “a couple of friends making music together in Philadelphia.” This talented bunch (including our own Jake Detwiler) have been writing songs and making music for and with others for years but the combination they can create together is something magical.
On “dreamgurl,” they seamlessly blend the gentler side of hip hop with the brighter side of pop into a woozy daydream with Good Old War‘s Keith Goodwin on vocals. This listless cloud of subtle, clever textures both glides in support of and playfully opposes the drifting melody. The track is catchy in an insatiable way and effortlessly conjures up the soft and (dare we say) dreamy imagery its lyrics describe. Perfect for the brightest days of spring and soon the heat of summer, “dreamgurl” really sinks in on first listen. When you’ve interminably replayed this one, give “Tired Eyes” a try.
