Queen of Jeans are always giving us more to love. This year they blessed us with Dig Yourself: a graceful collection of slow-burning powerhouses and bright, soaring pop. The album finds a striking balance between light and dark with a gentle intensity throughout. From the dark sway of “Heads Turn” to the otherworldly whispers of “Space”, Queen of Jeans really know how to weave delightfully unexpected turns into their silken melodies.
We’ve had a big, fat band crush on Queen of Jeans since their early days and had a blast recording a live version of “Dance (Get Off Your Ass)” at Tattooed Mom many moons ago. With the new album out, we couldn’t resist doing another session with our favorite denim dreamers. For this new live version of “Clever Hands,” the band performed as an acoustic trio with Patrick only appearing in popcorn bucket form. Miri, Mattie, and Nina floated through the song in harmony with ease out in the quiet of the Curtis Arboretum. Our beloved Bob Sweeney caught all of the vastness of the greenery and the serenity of the band’s delicate song while our equally beloved Jake Detwiler captured the sweet voices and guitar in balance with the natural surrounding sounds. Drift away on this dreamy, acoustic version of “Clever Hands” above.
Dig Yourself is out now on Topshelf Records. Queen of Jeans are currently on tour with Circa Survive and La Dispute around the US. Catch them at a show listed below and get a ticket here.
