Everything about Joseph is strong. The three Closner sisters write folk-centered anthems and ballads that project emotions in pristine 3-part harmony. Named after their grandfather and the little town he grew up in, the Oregon-based siblings make music with vitality. Every note pops from their triumphant single “White Flag.” A veritable middle finger to “the man” turned battle cry, Joseph boldly charges through a massive chorus that soars to a scream. Hums of warmth surround the fiery melody that is catchy, relatable, and hopeful.
I had the pleasure of seeing Joseph perform at WXPN‘s Non-Comm this year. Their indelible burst of joy and crisp synchronization was immersive. When three voices this impressive come together as one, it’s hard not to fall under their spell. Joseph’s new album, I’m Alone, No You’re Not, will be out August 26th on ATO Records.
