If at first you don’t succeed, you can dust it off and try again.
Our girl Aaliyah made a valid point in the unforgettable hook of her 2000 hit “Try Again.” We’ve spent the last few weeks beginning anew from the ashes of the old. Starting over is an confusing mess of feelings pulling you in all directions. We have created this week’s playlist to act as the lemonade for the 893,045th batch of lemons life has handed you. Much different from Beyonce’s version, our concoction is made of quiet confessions recorded in bedrooms, spunky declarations backed by a drum machine, and whole heap of guitars. “NEWDS” pairs together brand new artists and less new favorites for a fresh mix of music that echoes the churning emotions experienced restarting a part of your life.
For this week’s playlist, we teamed up with the pair of brothers at the helm of one of our favorite music blogs: Wake The Deaf. Jon and Liam have created a platform for sharing music that is intimate, sincere, and insightful. From in-depth reviews of albums just as they arrive to the world to thoughtful book reviews paired with a soundtrack of new music, the site is an unassuming but detailed exploration into the ways music can invoke feelings. I like to think of Wake The Deaf as the Internet version of a cozy reading nook by foggy window lit by a plethora of candles where you are surrounded by the best collection of cassettes imaginable. Jon and Liam each selected 10 songs that fit perfectly into our theme of new beginnings. Check out (and follow) everything Wake The Deaf below and curl up with our combined forty-song playlist to keep your heart and mind steady in the whirlpool of fresh starts.
