Gothenburg trio Baby In Vain really know how to sink their teeth into a song. “Muscles,” their strongest effort to date, slops on the sludge over a screamable melody. The plodding bass line only lessens to form a clear path for the searing guitar, winding to a climax with the ascending vocals. Relatable lyrics make sense of the odd sort of darkness billowing from the grit of the heavy instrumentation. Grotesquely simple, the video is 50 shades of bizarre in slow pans and tilting zooms as the band wine and dine with a shirt-less, masked henchman. Shadows and deep stares are drenched in dark hues only enhanced by the hefty tune.
