Beach Baby‘s debut single, “Ladybird,” teeters the line between placid and anthemic. What I love about the song is that it retains what is presumably the original simple idea of the song while also sweeping to the polished heights of great modern day indie rock. In the recesses of the yearning verses, there are faint, little hand claps and light strums of acoustic guitar peeking through. Between massive choruses, impressive falsetto peaks in the song’s bridge that cascades into a pool of ripping guitar. Fusing bits of new wave and shoegaze into a shell of indie rock, “Ladybird” is a fresh and vibrant take on an old formula that makes Beach Baby yet another band to watch in 2015.
