Tune: Rosie Carney – “Black Star”

November 12, 2020

Rosie Carney‘s cover of Radiohead‘s “Black Star” carefully lingers with a comforting radiance in spite of its lyrical melancholy. A new track off of the Irish artist’s upcoming project covering the entirety of Radiohead’s 1995 album The Bends, her rendition of “Black Star” keeps much of the heart of the original but really zooms the focus in on the sad reality of the song’s lyrics. Taking a slow pace and blanketing the gently unfolding lyrics in soft strums and distant strings, Carney makes each word fill with just a bit more unavoidable heartbreak than the last. Her version is fitting in a year of prescribed loneliness but never lacks for warmth.

Rosie Carney’s The Bends will be out on Dec. 11 via Color Study. You can preorder the record here and listen to more from Rosie Carney here.
