Session: Darla

March 22, 2017

To know Darla is to love them. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to the 8-ish piece Philly band grow these past few years and have written about them over and over and over. But even on first listen, their glowing blend of funk feels inviting and familiar. The group of pals are as funny as they are musically talented. They really know how to light up a room and have amassed a loyal following because of it. For those who have yet to experience it and for those who just can’t get enough, we wanted to give you a glimpse of Darla playing live that also shows their personality.

We did our best to capture their energy and interplay of humor and improvisation on video. A winning combination of a gentleman’s glamour photo shoot and a house show, the session brings out the band’s liveliness in the warmth of their own home. Seven human members and one cardboard member of Darla shred through an extra funky live version of “Mustard Tiger” between a tree of hats and a slightly terrifying bunny painting. Thanks to our all-star team of Bob Sweeney on visuals and Jake Detwiler on sound, the video will leave you involuntarily cackling and swaying your body to the groove that Darla digs so deeply.

See Darla live this Saturday (March 25th) at Bourbon & Branch with Muscle Tough and Tektonic.
