Tune: Day Wave – “Drag”

April 10, 2015

Day Wave has pretty much mastered his driving dream pop sound only three songs into the project. Jackson Phillips (otherwise known as one half of Carousel) really sinks comfortably into the lighthearted sound he has been crafting as Day Wave on “Drag.” Gliding along sun-speckled guitar riffs and burgeoning synths, this sweet little pop tune glistens with a sheen of careful musicianship. What I love most about “Drag” is what I have loved about all of Phillips material thus far: the dreamy sound is paired with serious lyrical contemplation. Listening on a surface or deeper level, anyone’s ears will be happy. This time around, Phillips grapples with the ever-present struggle of finding time to really invest in loved one. As self-aware as ever, he searches for a solution between a soaring chorus and echoing ‘oo’s.

Based on these first few tracks, the album is shaping up to be a introspective daydream of wonder. Catch up on your Day Wave below.
