Video: Marching Church – “King of Song”

March 31, 2015

Before Danish punk band Iceage‘ success, frontman Elias Bender Rønnenfelt was making a whole different kind of music on his own as Marching Church Today, now a full band comprised of musicians with other main projects as well, Marching Church has released their full length This World Is Not Enough. The collection is described by Rønnenfelt himself as “eight songs of nocturnal longing, preposterous self-obsession and cockeyed etiquette.” It’s wild and weird and wonderful, much like the video for their recent single “King of Song” which was also released today. Brooding in shades of black and white, the clips’ rapid succession of constantly moving shots blur with a frenetic energy that perfectly suits the song. “King of Song” is oddly epic. A pop song at its core, the crazed half rambled, half moaned lyrics spiral from Rønnenfelt in such a way that transitions quickly from jarring to mesmerizing. Spurts of jazzy sax and his wandering words are kept in check by a gently buzzing bassline and a soft choir of backing vocals. This World Is Not Enough is out now on Sacred Bones Records.
