Melbourne’s Jen Cloher has got a fresh new track and slimey clip that breaths life into simplicity. Cloher, who also happens to be the main squeeze of Courtney Barnett, has put out an impressive variety of music leading up to now, thriving under the guise of shifting emotions and genres. “Needle in the Hay” marks a decided turn towards the lackadaisical ease of her partner’s music which is poignant seeing as the song is about her and their long-standing relationship. It hammers in guitar riffs, forcefully progressing with the intention of delivering her lyrical point. Directed by Charlie Ford, the video is finely executed, paint pouring art that uses extreme closeups at slow speed to create a colorful and captivating clip.
“Needle in the Hay” will be out as one half of the Jen Cloher/Courtney Barnett Record Store Day 7″ split on their own Milk! Records.
